Central Security Committee Decides to Further Strengthen Election Security for Falgun 21 Polls

Kathmandu: The regular meeting of the Central Security Committee, chaired by Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal, has decided to further strengthen the overall security strategy for the upcoming House of Representatives elections scheduled for Falgun 21.

High-Level Security Review Meeting
The meeting, held at the Ministry of Home Affairs, was attended by the Home and Defense Secretaries, along with the chiefs and representatives of the Nepal Army, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force and the National Investigation Department. The committee reviewed in detail the ongoing security preparations being carried out by the concerned agencies.

Focus on Integrated Election Security Plan
A major agenda of the meeting was to assess manpower mobilization and security arrangements under the already approved and implemented ‘Integrated Election Security Plan, 2082’. Security agencies reaffirmed their commitment to enhance coordination by closely analyzing current preparations and potential security challenges during the election period.

Activation of Coordination Mechanisms
The meeting decided to fully activate all existing coordination mechanisms to ensure that election-related activities are conducted in a systematic and dignified manner. All District Security Committees have been directed to further strengthen local-level security arrangements.

Fear-Free Campaign Environment
Emphasizing the need for a fear-free environment, the committee instructed security bodies to ensure that election campaigns and propaganda activities of political parties and candidates can be conducted safely. In view of increased political activities following candidate registration, security agencies will intensify patrols and visibility across the country.

Tight Monitoring of Social Media
The misuse of social media during the election has been identified as a key concern. The meeting decided to strengthen monitoring mechanisms to control the spread of misinformation, hate speech and illegal activities through digital platforms during the campaign period.

High Alert and Legal Action
The government has instructed all security agencies to remain on high alert. It has warned that strict legal action will be taken against anyone found misusing social media or engaging in activities that could disrupt the election process, reaffirming the commitment to conduct the polls in a free, fair and peaceful manner.
